IMAGINATION AT THE SERVICE OF ART.
Vexx (born 1998) is a Belgian artist based in Brussels, best known for his vibrant doodle-style works that capture very creative scenes one could see in a dream. He had the chance to collaborate with brands like Porsche, Disney, Gucci, Puma, Nickelodeon,...
What are your core values?
One of my core values, which I refuse to give up, is to stay true to childish imagination. Staying true to strangeness, that’s where the magic happens. And create for yourself first – if you love it, good people will love it too.
What does your dream project look like?
Difficult to indicate only one idea, but if we think big, why not a huge amusement park themed Vexx. It would be incredible to build entirely this interactive universe with my characters and a variety of experiences: scribbled sculptures on which one can skate, interactive projection rooms, ... Or even make an animated film Vexx in collaboration with a large studio. The artistic direction would be entirely in my style: wild and colorful worlds, a variety of creatures and a psychedelic scenario. It could be a surreal film produced by A24/Netflix/Studio Ghibli or (more realistic maybe) a clip in collaboration with a great artist. I think of Travis Scott, Tyler The Creator, Mac Miller, Ye, Stromae, ...
Describe your work in one sentence.
My work is a fusion of imagination and influence, bringing to life the doodles that wander in my mind throughout the day, interspersed with a dynamic collage of pop culture icons that have shaped me.
Why would you like to be recognized?
I have always wanted to become the greatest artist in the world, even if it will remain forever difficult to quantify. I think that today I am satisfied to advance my art, and share this process online to inspire many young artists. When people contact me to tell me the impact I had on them: taking up drawing after 20 years without touching a pencil, children who discover their passion for art after seeing my videos, these stories are really comforting. I hope to continue to spread this inspiration to the whole world for the rest of my life, it would be a well-lived life.
