Baeige

Jo-Anie Charland, known as Baeige, is a contemporary digital artist based in Montreal. Recognized for her ethereal and meditative works blending surrealism and minimalism, she creates serene visual environments from pastel palettes, delicate lines and dreamlike architectural compositions. Co-founder of the Foil Gallery, a hybrid art and café space located at 6560 Waverly Street in Montreal, Baeige combines personal creation with community engagement in the world of contemporary art.

What does your dream project look like?

My dream project would take me beyond the digital world into the physical one, creating a space that cultivates serenity and sparks creativity.The digital realm has given me a freedom I could never have imagined, especially as a self-taught artist. It has allowed me to envision architectural spaces that breathe calmness and balance.Our gallery space, Foil, is our first tentative space out of the digital and is in constant evolution. Our goal is to inspire serenity through all the senses, which is why the space is curated on multiple levels, from a custom fragrance to, of course, the best coffee in town.

Describe your work in one sentence.

Creating meditative environments that offer a safe space to manage anxiety, including (and especially) my own.

What would you like to be recognized for?

For creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, and where each person experiences a moment of serenity, leaving with a calm state of mind that fosters creativity and inner peace.

What impact does your artistic practice have?

I never could have imagined this life, every step has been a blessing. I’m continually humbled by how my work resonates with others. In our fast-paced world, taking a moment to rest your eyes and mind on an image can be deeply powerful, and yet it’s so often overlooked!For me, the spaces I create are a breath of fresh air, bringing me back to my core values: love and serenity.
